Well it kinda disappeared. I mean locally, here in the Philippines. Na-dominate na tayo ng pop songs, emo bands, pogi rock, Sarah Geronimo and the likes.
Or a combination of all of those. |
Well I'm talking about rock bands. You know? The screaming types? The scary-WTF am I listening to-kind of music. Or yung tipong kapag galit na galit ka tapos you listen to it and maybe find ways to vent out your frustrations in the process?
PASKO NA NAMAN!!! GRRRRHOO HO HO HOAAARRR!!! |
Yup. That's Slapshock. A local band kung hindi nyo sila kilala. I know back then we were dissing this band for being all conyo and stuff (listen to their song Anino Mo) but these days? Just listen to that song. In full blast. GRAAAAAAAARRRRRRR!!!!!!!
Then from Slapshock, I went to the scary type of rock. I think.
That's Korn with their song Freak on a Leash. Somewhere in the middle of that song, there's that part where he sings random syllables. May nag-backmask na ba ng part na yun? Or nag-translate? What does that mean?... Does it really matter? GRAAAR!!!
This one's a favorite of mine. Nakakabuhay ng dugo. Like you'd like to jump around and smash things. Even pencils or ballpens will do. GRAAAARRRRR!!!!
There are tons more out there: System of a Down, Rage Against the Machine, Disturbed, Foo Fighters (sometimes) and locally, naaalala ko na lang yung the likes of Kamikazee, Cheese, maybe Parokya ni Edgar sometimes? I don't know.
My point is I'd like to have music like this again in the mainstream media for a change. To create that hardcore feel again whenever I turn on the radio. Maybe nasosobrahan na ako sa mga pop songs nila Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, or sa mga mellow songs nila John Mayer, Taylor Swift or love songs ng mga bands, internationally or locally.
Instead of being serenaded by Sam Milbys. CONSTANTLY. |
Mosh pits included |
classic rock is love. i don't really listen to 90s rock tho except Blur and Radiohead. at mas nakikinig ako sa indie and folk rock at post-rock.
ReplyDeletei am not really sure if i want rock to go mainstream. parang ang weird lang isipin na people will go crazy for them the same way kay justin bieber. jk. lol. pero making rock mainstream creates more chances para pumunta intl rockbands dito sa Pilipinas. kung iyan lang yung point, then i wont mind. :D
sana lang at least, have its presence felt again. over saturated na kasi ng pop songs and love songs yung generation of music these days.
ReplyDeletenot entirely mainstream, no. but at least give us, rock music listeners the chance to once again listen to such awesome, awesome music.
walang defining moment kasi ngayon ang rock. remember how huge Queen was? The Beatles was? even Eraserheads, Rivermaya, Parokya ni Edgar back in the day?
i certainly don't 'remember' how huge the Beatles and Queen was. :P well, yeah. i do get your point.
ReplyDeletebabalik din yan, someday. hahaha. i guess, with local music, wala atang nagse-stay na music genre for a long period of time. parng acoustic nung late highschool tapos naging (by your own words) 'pogi' rock nung early college tapos iyon, pop ngayon. ewan. haha.
hey, I like Taylor Swift. :P
ReplyDeleteHi Don! Tagal ko ng di nakakabasa ng bago ah. Busy? hahaha
okay, natatawa pa rin ako sa Cueshe. hahahaha!
ReplyDelete@anonymous - rephrase that: have you seen how huge those bands were?
ReplyDelete@secondhand -I like Taylor Swift as well, it's just that, I want my dose of rock music again. yung sikat at hindi nasa underground lang. yung naiissue na may sa demonyo, masama, napupunta sa senado (Alapaap by Eraserheads) or the songs that your mom/parents will hate in general. hahaha.
yup. quite busy. pero still trying to come up with stuff for this blog. ;)
